Reading is one of my favorite past-times as a child. I would curl up for 2 or 3 straight hours until I finished a Nancy Drew book, read to my little brother, or even pretend to "play school" when I was a kid. Reading is not as easy to do nowadays as a mom, but you make time for the things you love. I also make time to take my girls to the library every week. My oldest loves to play with the toys, but the books draw her in as well. There are so many good reads. I thought I would share some of our favorite books and authors with you.

The first book I really loved was this book on manners. It's all about a little girl who shows your child the do's and do not's of having good manners with a friend or family member. She is a really girl and doesn't have a bad attitude. She is kind and courteous.

The next two books were such fun reads! We made up songs to go along with the words! Have you ever noticed how most books have rhythm with their words? Well, I like music so much, and we always try to incorporate it into our daily lives. We actually borrowed these from the library and then I bought them both on Abebooks because they were such favorites. The Deep Blue Sea book is about a boy who goes on a great adventure, and Jazz Baby gives us a taste of the Jazz culture. So fun!

We like to have a variety of books. This Curious George one was fun because it was very interactive. Often, I find my daughter wanting to contribute to the story or discuss pictures on the page - with a look and find book we can interact together!

This book, The Library, made me giggle. It's all about a lady who reads and reads and reads. Her life is books and cats. She outgrows her house because of all of the books in it, so she ends up just making it a library for the town. It's a cute story, and in the end she's selfless and shares her books!

Now this book kept us entertained on our recent move. I did my best country twang in my singing voice. We read/sang this book over and over. It was a fun one!

"Miz Fannie Mae's Fine New Easter Hat" was a sweet book about a family who wore their their Sunday best on an Easter morning. I love having books around that display every culture living everyday life. We try and get a broad spectrum of books each time we go to the library!

Lastly, the Little House books are so wonderful for children's minds. They relate to little children so well, and I have found my 2 1/2 year old quite taken with the stories. She always talks about Mary and Laura and the fun things they did with their Pa - from eating a pig's tail, to making snow angels, to cooking in the kitchen with Ma. The Ingalls family lived such a simple life, and they were a very hardworking family. We especially love this series and the classics.

Each night I always read or tell Esther an Old Testament story as well. I want her to have an awe of the Lord and to be excited about all of the ways He has helped His people since the beginning of time. We do our best to read a Bible story and a chapter of the Little House books each night - at least that is the current routine. Life changes and there are different seasons, but for the time being we are doing what works for us!

It is such a responsibility to have children. I would love for my daughters to grow up with an exceedingly large wonder for the world and all of the beautiful people, places, and things God has created....here are just a few more examples of books we own and love...
